Fahrin and I met for coffee after my dance class. She gave me a tiny, amazing book*: Six-Word Memoirs on Love and Heartbreak.
Inside the front cover she had inscribed, "For Leslie, Because I know you understand." I often think that meeting Fahrin when I did was critical to the way I recovered from my divorce. All of my friends were really wonderful, but someone my own age, going through a similar thing was a completely different kind of support. I think this is why Fahrin feels like an old friend though we have known each other a relatively short period of time. I understand. She understands.
You can open this book at any page and find six words to move you.
Fahrin picked this one out for me: My book title makes dating awkward. (V.V. Ganeshananthan).
I love that this seems to imply that I can and will write a book, despite there being no evidence that this is in fact possible.
My favourite, because, although not likely intended to be so, I think it sounds like a great motto: She got back on the Vespa. (Josh McHugh).
* I was recently touched by the gift of another book, and I will make a deal with myself to write about it tomorrow.
