A New Zealand woman suffered a mild stroke after a particularly vigorous hickey created a blood clot that dislodged and travelled to her brain. According to the New Zealand Medical Journal, this is the first known case of a love bite-related stroke in medical literature. Does this mean you should tone it down a notch? Debby Herbenick, a sexual-health researcher at Indiana University in Bloomington, doesn’t think so: “People should not live in fear of receiving hickeys.”
