Went to see the Chagall and the Russian Avant-Garde exhibit tonight at the AGO with Bryony.
There were a few Chagall paintings I had hoped to see that weren’t included in the exhibition, which was a bit disappointing. However, it was very interesting to see Chagall’s rather dreamy work hung alongside the constructivist art being created at the same time. My favourite besides the Chagall works was a series of 14 lithographs by Natalia Goncharova called “Mystical Images of War” (keep clicking “Next” to see all the images).
After we were finished with Chagall, we wandered upstairs to the 4th and 5th floors where there was a huge exhibition of works by Canadian group, General Idea. I think I’m going to have to go back to spend some more time with that collection, because it was pretty amazing. There were a lot of neon poodles going at it, for one thing.
