Employee Seriously Injured – Peel Test Lab Shut Down
This morning, a long-time Widco employee was seriously injured in the Peel test lab. We regret to inform you that the employee lost his arm while operating one of the new robotic arms. Details are limited at this point, however, we know that he is in stable condition at Peel Memorial Hospital. Widco is staying in close contact with the employee and his family to offer our support during this difficult time.
Although we hope the move to Whitby remains on schedule, our highest priority is keeping our facility and our employees are safe. The Peel test lab has been shut down until further notice while the situation is thoroughly investigated. During this time, Widco will also review our training programs to ensure the highest standard of safety is maintained. In addition, Widco will ensure the injured employee is supported both financially and emotionally throughout his recovery and that an appropriate job is available for him when he is ready to return to work.
All Widco employees should report to work tomorrow, except those who work in the Peel test lab. Affected test lab employees will be paid their normal salary during this unexpected closure.
Check this site frequently as we will update it with more information as it becomes available. Your area managers and WEU representatives are also ready to answer questions.
